I remember the Facebook outage and everyone going "Their DNS servers aren't responding, it's always DNS!" and the true culprit was the DNS servers weren't responding because they pushed bogus BGP routes for everything from a device that was automated then locked in a cage no one had the keys to.

In this case it looks like BGP again, except they so thoroughly horked themselves that the fix may Take Awhile.
