What exactly is Pleroma? I am asking here instead of just googling it because I also want the context of why people really dislike it and why it gets so many instance block recommendations.

@sharkNserg It's another fediverse backend like Mastodon, and while it is sometimes used as a more lightweight alternative, between its featureset and the affiliations of its maintainers, it attracts a lot of really shitty people to using it as well
@sharkNserg Most instances that brand themselves as pleroma specifically rather than just using the software tend to affiliate with the very mindset of those maintainers
