music theory is so cool!! fuck music theory though
getting stuck in the mindset of prescriptivism before I even start writing music lately and I really ought to just put some nasty sounding things together, not care about how they sound, and then gently tap them into place until it sounds right. and then MAYBE I can use the tools from theory to figure out what I'm even doing
there's all these cool fancy rules but I'm tripping myself up by considering them at all considering the fact that they aren't actually rules, they're just explanations for common patterns. fucking oops
