Phone Rec
@BestGirlGrace honestly, it has been great.
I baby mine a little-- I do tend to keep mine closed when I'm not actively using it (to avoid bending it back the other way and to protect the screen from scratches), and I usually rotate it so that the hinge isn't where I usually sit down when it's in my back pocket.
It feels sturdy enough, and being able to 'close' my phone when I'm done with it (but still see notification blurbs on the mini display) is really brain-nice.
It may get a little stiffer in the cold, but I'm not certain yet. It handled a thirty minute walk around ten Fahrenheit just fine, but I haven't done a lot of testing in very cold conditions. I expect it would be fine, though.
Phone Rec
I like my phone and it fits in girlpockets. I don't have a user replaceable battery, but the firmware does do some battery capacity protection. I use a Samsung Galaxy ZFlip 5G. I've had it for about a year ish and like it reasonably, though it took some work to get it less 'noisy'.
And let's be honest. Many white 'liberals' and 'progressives' feel like they have some ownership of the fedi and can dictate what the culture is rather than being amenable to it changing as the user base grows and diversifies.
Many white people feel like they can very rudely make demands of people they don't know and expect people to acquiesce. And that's just unearned entitlement.
There are always growing pains when any platform has gains that have just happened over the last couple of weeks. We need patience, care, and understanding to let the culture grow organically.
What we don't need is white people bitterly complaining that their fabricated view of the world is changing because reality is no longer deniable.
Drink some water and shut the fuck up. You're not in any danger. LOL, you're just a bigot. You'll be fine.
I just wanted to share one of the pieces of work I'm most proud of this year.
In June I gave the University of Oxford annual disability lecture.
This lecture explored my work around unwanted touching as experienced by disabled people.
It is the culmination of work that started on Twitter 4 years ago.
I am very grateful to everyone who has shared their stories & supported #JustAskDontGrab over the years.

Tech suggestion
@MerlinJStar@weirder.earth Heya! You mentioned soliciting suggestions for a Zoom replacement.
There's a project called Jitsi (https://jit.si) that you can use. It's also self-host-able, if you or your friends are into that, but you can also just use their site. It's not perfect, but it also is not Zoom. :)

@Astroexeter absolutely! Can I read more about what it's an image of/what it was colorized on somewhere? Totally gorgeous stuff.
@signal9 hi there! How've you been? :)

@Astroexeter THIS IS NOT BORING
I'll be at the star-wars-themed night at #GroundZeroNightclub tonight! If you see me, come say 'hi'! :)
Why will I be there? A local circus arts group hosts a #kink -friendly community #event with fire stuff, #aerial performances, and music. It's in #Minneapoils. It's a cash-only venue, cover is around $15, and the bar has non alcoholic options. The space is #WheelchairAccessible. Costumes highly recommend. 🖤✨
switter (the sex worker instance) was closed because of literal actual government interference from numerous nations. please do the reading before painting fedi with a swerf or other reactionary brush. i want sex workers to be SAFE dammit and that means knowing when we can't responsibly be a part of your work. and sex work is work.
please read https://switter.at/ - their own words - before developing a Take.
