Little soapbox

@mxbluesky

I've met a few folks who are physically disabled that use them. They don't like, nor support cops, but it was inexpensive and lets them let friends in without needing to spend five minutes trying to get to the front door.

A few queer friends in a rougher area have one, too, presumably because it makes them feel safer to be able to see who's on the front step without getting up.

These things provide real benefits to the humans who use them. 95% of the time, ring cam users are conservative nut jobs, but like.. I dunno, people are human. Sometimes we buy unethically produced t-shirts, sometimes we waste meat, sometimes we use technology to make our lives more pleasant, even if there is a scary cost.

IMO, this is an argument for why legislation is a more effective tool to combat a police state than 'dollar democracy', but I guess maybe that's just me. For the record, I, too, hate ring doorbells. Just, like, idk, careful about generalizing there, cuz like, the important thing is humans, right, and not the tech or its abuse. The abuse only matters because people matter.

Anyways, uh, I'll get down off this soap box. Nice to meet you, I'm Starless. 😅

Tech (goofy), Cyberia, mask mention

So we gave up on media over temple, and instead set some wifi (wled) enabled lights and changed them via plan 9. Successfully, eventually. All six of us cheered when we got it.

Tech (goofy), Cyberia, mask mention

Layer Zero, our physical space, has craft night tonight. We're all in very good masks, etc, and are up to date on our security patches.

We're working on setting up a media station, but realized we needed an os. Someone had temple downloaded as a joke, but that's all we had. We're trying to get it on the media laptop now, just because.

We are delighted, joyful children in a sandbox and this feels silly and fun.

Covid poll (not pol), boost for viz

@alex other, kind of? Had exposure, got very sick, but in March 2020, so no tests available and no loss of taste or smell.

always remember that being able bodied is a temporary state of being. able bodied people better start caring about the disabled quickly because you'll be one of us soon enough be it by illness, injury, or age 🤷‍♀️

1930s animation, racism, video games, link to article

Have a link to an article about the intersection between classic 1930s cartoons, racism, and the game Cuphead. It talks about the harms of sanitizing art built on racism, and touches on the utter dearth of racial diversity in modern big-budget video games.

I found it helpful and fascinating.

Hello there,
I'm new here, so thanks for having me.
I like to think I make music but you'll be judging that.
I live off-grid and record on solar powered equipment.
Here's a little taste of my new concept album:

@BestGirlGrace there exist print-it-yourself sheets and such, but I'm not sure if that's what you're already looking at.

@thegibson@hackers.town iirc, this is a common setup for industrial operations that use third party hardware/machines that an outside vendor provides support for.

Hey, @scoots needs about $150 to cover the cost of a nerve test they need and their insurance won't cover. The nerve issue the test is meant to address (as I understand it) causes pain in their back and drawing arm, makes it very difficult to get things done, and measurably reduces their quality of life.

Would you please help out, by donating and/or boosting this post? Their art is beautiful and their commissions are open, if you'd like to get something back for your donation: ko-fi.com/bugpaws

A dear friend is opting for top surgery. Trying to make a care package for 'em - if you had a mastectomy pillow, would you be willing to talk dimensions with me? Lots of these are written by people who are donating them to cancer groups and I'm not seeing feedback from people who used them, and some of these measurements seem awfully one size, so I'd love to hear user input before I start sewing.

re: Uspol, Signal

@adam @teh_dude @thegibson@hackers.town basic thought, but it might've been accessing Bluetooth, which can look like GPS access because of some Android thing. If not, carry on, just worth maybe mentioning.

public health, immunocompromised and disabled, personal

I know I'm just one person, but if you're disabled, immunocompromised, chronically ill, or have a kid that can't get vaccinated --

I care about you, I hate the tone society is taking towards your health and dignity, and I'm going to keep doing everything I can, and nagging everyone else to do the same.

It's not my place to tell you that you matter, because of freaking course you do.

Nobody gets to decide this pandemic is over.

And until the FACTS and DATA reflect that it is, I'm going to be as responsible as possible. I value everyone's life. :ancomheart:

@polymerwitch this sounds a lot like what we had in mind with Cyberia, too. We're not exclusively leftist, but we're definitely primarily leftist.

You're welcome to poke around our matrix and see what you like / what you don't like about it, and if it's easier, too just vibe with us. :)
