does any one know how to do the sequence which allows you to add the same text at the beginning of multiple lines like in vim?

In vim you go Ctrl+V, select all the lines, Shift+I type what you want to prepend, Esc -> each selected line has the thing you typed in front of it.

@tamtararam when you have multiple lines selected, search for the beginning-of-lines character ^ , press enter and you have a cursor at each line start. then you can go into insert mode and enter your text
