🥽I have spent two months analyzing the actions of this administration, and here is my conclusion:

There is no grand strategy

They certainly are making plans to do specific things, like strangle the Chinese economy or unperson transgender people

But to what end? It’s a list of unrelated, short-term policy objectives that do not work together to accomplish any outcome besides giving a group of very powerful people something to do. Reshaping society to a form they like so that they can enjoy the aesthetics of living in that society

Chasing superficial dreams like making skin tones in the US lighter via selective breeding while also increasing the birth rate while also stealing resources from those children that would help them survive while also making those children hate them by curtailing their civil rights

These ideas don’t work together. So the point isn’t for the capitalists to make a society that works or is sustainable but to make a society that makes them feel things

🥽if you as a citizen think you would exercise better operational security than the Director of National Intelligence, the Director of the CIA, the Secretary of Defense and one of the president’s top national security advisers, all of whom are supposed to be experts in the fields of war and signals intelligence… then why would you believe, were intelligence officers to haul away your neighbor, that they were doing so for a “good” reason that is beyond your own capacity to percieve?

For the actions of a fascist government to be sustainable, the population at large must trust that the scary and irrational seeming things the regime is doing are not as irrational as they seem and are ultimately going to make things better.

This is, of course, magical thinking. To those opposing the regime it takes through form of conspiracy theories, to those supporting it a sort of optimistic paranoia that “this is all part of the plan”

But what if it’s not?

What if your gut reaction is correct?

🥽the reason why the military intelligence breach news is so important in terms of resisting a Trump/Musk dictatorship is that a dictator’s legitimacy rests on public confidence in the dictator’s competency and value system.

A dictatorship is sold on the idea that the dictator as an individual will do a better job governing a country than the country’s population would if left to make their own decisions.

A dictator can get away with being ruthless, brutal and murderous… as long as the general public believes them doing so is necessary and good.

Rank incompetency on the part of the upper echelons of the authoritarian hierarchy threatens the image of the dictator as effective or credible.

Even if you support every action the people in the chat are taking, including the use of signal to avoid public oversight, leaking a war plan to a journalist still challenges the idea that these people deserve this power.

It throws the fascist project *itself* into question.

going a wittle bit cwazy seeing people freak out more about the fact that Hegseth had bad opsec instead of, you know, the war crimes he was proposing

Not everything that Newag does is bad.

For instance, I would like to congratulate them on making the shortlist of the European SLAPP Contest 2025!

maybe a weird question but: does anyone have or know of a creative commons (or similarly licensed) electron microscope image of blown and unblown fuses in an SoC? :boost_ok:

It is really quite incredible how bad they have managed to make their implementation of what is nominally a great idea

Ah yes, certainly enjoying Element constantly generating 'notifications' because it is repeatedly failing to send my messages and asking me to retry, because Synapse (also from Element) is a piece of shit that constantly hangs for minutes at a time for no discernible reason, and so I end up spending upwards of 10 minutes constantly getting interrupted by notification icons because none of this shit fucking works, to send like 4 lines of text

in the router lab we ran a few weeks ago I made students fill out paperwork from the INET NCC (a la RIPE NCC) to get their stuff setup

reading the feedback forms a surprising number said they really enjoyed the paperwork

I've been saying it as a joke, but I'm now seeing what appear to be genuine sentiments that the "trick" to using "AI" coding assistants is to precisely describe the program you want.

Instant water. Just add water.

Probably a lost cause, but does anyone know where I could borrow screwdrivers in Japan for ~5 minutes?

Someone passing by was watching TikTok on her phone, didn't pay attention to her surroundings, and threw my backpack off the table.

I picked it up and inspected the damage - my laptop's back popped open in multiple places and doesn't power on anymore. Embedded Controller flashes the power button in red (indicating error state), if I plug it into the USB-C power brick and reset the EC (refresh + power), it boots up but doesn't detect the battery.

Hoping that battery just disconnected itself (and other lies you can tell yourself) but I need a fairly precise set of screwdriver (and slice-resistant gloves) to open it and inspect the internals.

Currently heading from Fukuoka to Kumamoto, will be back in Tokyo from March 29th until April 1st (when I'll be heading back home). If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it :akko_hug:
