asking for opinions regarding mutual aid posts :boost_requested:

How do folks relying on mutual aid posts, feel about the idea of an advertising/banner rotation thing on (non-commercial) websites where they can place a free 'ad' to ask for money from visitors of that site?

I'm wondering if this might help make such things visible to a different crowd than usual, who would not otherwise have thought about this (and who have the disposable income for it)... but it's going to have very different social dynamics from fedi, so I'd like to know how people feel about this, and what the concerns would be.

(This would be entirely unrelated to commercial banner ads; I don't have any place for this currently in mind yet, this is still just an idea for now)

Note that I'm primarily looking for the opinions of people who are *recipients* of mutual aid posts / begposts, not random internet users.

ok, this is weired. i am trying #Microsoft disability help desk via chat now and while chatting with them, JAWS says " Customer is typing. Customer has stopped typing" haha! wrong labeling there.

: If you had to find an alternative word for "politics" (in the broad sense, not the electoral sense), and you couldn't use the word "politics" itself, what would you call it?

Captchas are dead, by the way. Turns out that the one thing LLMs can actually do well, is the thing that we would want them to be unable to do.

ND relationships, 'friendship decay', advice :boost_requested:

I forgot the proper term for this, or where I first read about it, but it seems to be something that a lot of folks still aren't aware of: relationships work differently for a lot of ND folks.

It's just sort of *assumed* in society that if you don't talk to a friend for a long time, that the friendship "degrades"; they "become more distant" if you don't keep in contact with them.

But for a lot of ND folks (me included), especially autistic folks, this isn't how it works; relationships exist 'outside of time', they remain stable even if we've not talked to someone for a long time! They're still the same person, and our view of them doesn't change whether it's been a day or a year.

So, really: talk this through with your friends! Make sure that you're on the same page as to whether "friendship decay" is a thing that you both experience or not. It prevents a lot of anxiety and conflict down the line.

This is such a not-uncommon occurrence in the gaming industry that, honestly, anytime I can’t find someone and there’s no obituary, I assume they’ve simply transitioned.

what an incredible line (via https://shrike.club/@projesterone/111445312804653987)

Getting real tired of the media gaslighting anyone who still takes covid seriously by trying to claim people who don't want brain damage or heart damage or strokes or ME/CFS or diabetes or nerve pain or a bunch of other issues are just "overly anxious" about covid now and it's because we haven't been given "guidance" on how to "adapt to the new normal"

Meanwhile, in the land where science has actual meaning, covid is 4x deadlier than the flu, several orders of magnitude more likely to lead to chronic postviral illness, and people enjoying the "new normal" are getting it 1-3 or more times a year whereas I can count the number of times I've had influenza in 40 years on one hand. Also, award winning viral disease experts talk about how important it is to get covid as infrequently as possible

But sure. I'm just "overly anxious" about getting the brain eating, heart destroying, diabetes inducing, immune system depleting, neuron fusing plague that nobody is trying to stop from spreading anymore

I guess what I really want is for the software I use to be industry hostile
