Economics: Humans only value things monetarily.
Sociology: Uh, I don't ...
Economics: Humans are always rational and value is calculated by a complex inner calculus.
Sociology: Uh, Psy, can you help?
Psychology: That's not how humans ...
Economics: ALSO MY SYSTEM WILL GROW EXPONENTIALLY FOREVER!!
Physics: *drops teacup*

It's great that there are instances like mastodon.art that push back against the "growth at all costs" toxicity that instances like universeodon are poisoning the fedi with.

Okay we're back! What I did instead of working today: Fedi-dynamics, the phenomena of mastodon.art, and against my best efforts, talking about facebook.

Inside of every fediverse, there are two wolves...

re: Universeodon meta

And like, I don't mean that metaphorically. I mean the actual tactics that abusers use to maintain and extend abusive relationships.

Universeodon meta

So everybody realizes that Byron (the Universeodon admin) is straight-up using abuser tactics, yeah?

It's funny watching a white admin meltdown because they got defederated from another instance.

It's really not that big a deal, and if your behavior improves, it can be rescinded.

But this whole song and dance about how BAD defederation is revolves around a glaring lack of self-reflection and why one felt the need to invoke that tactic.

You're not a victim. You just need to do better. Your inability to see the distinction is probably what got you blocked.

But hey, do you.

when a person of a marginalized group asks "where are my people?" on a site

the absolute wrong thing for someone not of that group to do is to start tagging people willy nilly, without their consent or awareness of whether they want to be hypervisible in that way

Facebook has devrels, they pay people to do the simping. You don't have to simp for free.

so we can all just fediblock universeodon now right? simping for Facebook is bad for the fedi, right?

transition has taught me that big long-term goals aren't insurmountable

and that you can take them one day at a time

Ok I had an epiphany I felt like sharing. I think I've figured out why the "You must be high-functioning!" response pisses me off when I tell someone I'm autistic.

It's because they always mean it as a compliment. "Oh, you're high-functioning, you're not like those BAD autistics who don't/can't/won't mask! You're one of the good ones!"

No, I'm not better than anyone else. I don't have more value than an autistic person who appears more autistic than I do. Stop it.

rant about abusing metaphors

It's so wild that so many adults still believe that if you can draw a comparison between two things in some aspect you can create an infallible, deep metaphor from it.
Just because two things are alike in one way doesn't mean they're alike in more ways! Just because you *can* create a metaphor that seems to kinda make sense on a surface level DOESN'T mean that you discovered some deep truth or connection!
Why is this shit so common? We live in a super complicated world where it's really hard two find two different things that follow the exact same logic.

I mean stuff like "LGBTQ+ is like a pandemic because more and more people identify as such THEREFORE it's infectious". That doesn't make any sense if you give it ANY thought.

those #NDA meetings with #meta start in an hour and a half

who's the brave rogue admin willing to leak the whole shebang via livetooting with your phone under the desk? i believe in you!!!!!!!

If you ever feel like you're not competent enough, just consider that yesterday I ran across an "engineering consulting" company with major corporations as their customer, whose "technical reference" entry for stepper motors was a straight copy-paste from a random WordPress blog from 2011

reference to tweet, datacenters, "cloud providers"

Several years ago, if you were a reputable datacenter and you told your customer "nope, we won't tell you which facility/rack your server is located in", you'd lose that customer, it would be considered a mark of serious unprofessionalism

But if you're a cloudycloud provider like Google or Amazon, apparently people just shrug and accept that

The greatest trick the devil (ie. privileged assholes) ever pulled was to convince people that intentions are unknowable, and so we must assume that they are good at all times

Can't help but notice the amount of casual racism, sexism, etc. on YouTube Shorts...
